Overview

Oral Pathology and Microbiology is a branch of dentistry which deals with basic structural makeup of soft and hard tissues of oral cavity along with diseases of oral and para-oral structures. It also provides with understanding the patho-physiology of diseases, which is essential for establishment of diagnosis and its treatment modality.

Our department is dedicated to the training dental students, internees and future specialists in oral and maxillofacial pathology, dental anatomy and histology, microbiology, forensic dentistry and related fields.

Our department is equipped with research microscope with fluorescent, phase contrast, dark field attachment, semi-automatic microtome and tissue processing unit which is utilized in providing services in surgical pathology, cytology and clinical biochemistry.

The department is committed to fulfill its duty to the community by providing best quality of diagnostic services to patients and by regular participation in community camps.

The Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology was established in year 2008 and is flourishing since inception and ventured into post graduate training in 2017. Located in 3rd floor and covering an expanse of about 3500 sq. feet the department has dedicated laboratory space, research microscopy room, under graduate laboratory, haematology lab, histopathology lab, staff rooms, post graduate study room and HOD room providing adequate space and maintaining all sections within easy reach.

    Facilities

    In our department we carry out following investigations

  • Hematology: TLC, DLC, Hb%, BT, CT, Blood grouping.
  • Cytology: exfoliative cytology, imprint cytology, FNAC
  • Histopathological diagnosis of tissue specimen received from all dental specialities and private clinics.
